How Does It Work?

The Crayola Colour Alive App only works with Colour Alive colouring pages. The app sees your colouring page by using the camera on your device and then compares that with the pages it has built in. The black line art is actually what the app is looking for. When it finds a match, the app knows which colouring page is being used and can bring it to life.

What If It Doesn’t Work?

It is possible that the page could be coloured in a way that the app will have trouble seeing the black line art and might not be able to decide which page you are using. Using lots of dark colors like black, blue, and purple confuses the app the most. Crayola is already working on updates to the Colour Alive app to help it see colouring pages better. The updates will be available as soon as possible, but before they are, here are some tips you can follow to help the Colour Alive app bring your coloring to life:

1) Place your colouring page in a well-lit area before trying to bring it to life.

2) Colour the character, but leave some of the background uncolored to help the app see the line art and understand which page it is.

3) Colour the page with a mix of bright, light colours and fewer dark colours.

Other Tips

1) The Colour Alive app needs an internet connection to bring colouring pages to life. To allow the app to work on as many different devices as possible, some of the app content is downloaded only when it needed.

2) When you scan your special effect Marker the app unlocks the ability to print out extra copies of the colouring pages from your book, for free, using your home printer.
